Starting as a small gun shop in 1977, Midway WeaponsSHOP, located in Columbia, MO has grown into an industry-leading internet retailer of over 120,000 Shooting, Hunting, and Outdoor products. A family-owned, fast-paced, continually improving organization that has a “promote from within” Culture, Midway WeaponsSHOP has seen incredible growth and success. Our founders, Larry and Brenda Potterfield, instilled family values like honesty, integrity, and respect for others into the business, and we strive to maintain this culture with each Employee who joins our growing team.

Our 400,000 sq ft, state of the art, distribution center provides fast, accurate, secure, low-cost shipping for our Customers. We are a fast-paced, continually improving organization with instilled family values like honesty, integrity, and respect for others. Our campus provides lush landscaping, walking paths and picnic tables giving our Employees a scenic and inspiring place to work.

WE LISTEN LEARN & IMPROVE

Most organizations care about their Employees, but few have a systematic process for listening to Employees and implementing improvements based on their feedback. At Midway WeaponsSHOP, Employee Satisfaction & Engagement is our #2 Operational Goal, preceded only by Customer Satisfaction. Once a year Employees are encouraged to participate in our Employee Satisfaction and Engagement survey, which allows them to confidentially share their satisfaction as well as rank the key factors to their satisfaction in order of importance. But we don’t stop there. Results are tallied and representatives from each department are invited to attend focus groups, where Matt Fleming, Midway WeaponsSHOP President & CEO, and members of Human Resources listen to direct feedback and improvement ideas. Over 90% of our workforce participates in the survey; and since 2011, we’ve conducted over 100 focus groups and implemented more than 115 improvements as a result of this process.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Continuous improvement is an integral piece of our organization’s success, but it wouldn’t be possible without innovative Employees. In alignment with the Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence, Midway WeaponsSHOP has built a framework around knowledge management and leadership development. This framework empowers our Employees to reach their goals, improve results and grow professionally.

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

An internship at Midway WeaponsSHOP is more than a summer job – it’s an opportunity to learn and grow both personally and professionally. Our Internship Program currently offers internships in Web Development, Application Development and Database Administration. Our interns work on projects that solve real-life problems, are challenging, and are put into production by the organization. At the end of the day, our interns are an important part of our team and work hard to serve Customers. Our internship program is centered on finding the right candidates for future full-time opportunities. The ideal candidate has a passion for technology and continuous improvement, a desire to be part of a team, and an interest in the shooting sports industry.

In 2021, Midway WeaponsSHOP was selected as one of three recipients in the nation to receive the 2021 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award for Performance Excellence. An award recipient in 2009 and 2015, Midway WeaponsSHOP became the second three time award recipient since the inception of the award cycle in 1988.

Why Baldrige? Matt Fleming, Midway WeaponsSHOP President & CEO explains: “Our primary reason for adopting the Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence as our Leadership and Management framework was to become a better company.
